California has been drenched in the wretched rain for a week now. Gone are the days of warm sunshine in December, we just survived one of the worst storm in recent years, and here comes another one next week, smack in the middle of Christmas.
I was driving to work today. Same old road, same old car, extremely cold weather and surprisingly no traffic. It’s been awhile since I have been able to drive on the 110 north between the 105 and downtown LA at the speed of 40+. Most of the time I’m too busy paying attention to the car in front and the many more sandwiched between the lanes. My goal each morning was to get off the freeway as soon as possible, but not today. I have forgotten how beautiful Los Angeles is in the sunshine. I seemed to appreciate sunshine much more since we’ve been lost in the stormy clouds for days. The light blue sky with patches of white cloud spread across the freeway and from afar, the mountain ranges seemed to be dusted with white powered sugar. The white mountain tops, glistening against the sunshine became the background for the tall buildings in downtown. It was a postcard moment perfected by a Virgin Atlantic airplane slowly cutting through the sky.
The scene was too majestic for me to take in. I have to wonder about how lucky I am to live in this state near the beaches, near the snow, near the mountains… For the moment, I just wanted to continue on that road and not worry about where it is taking me.
